Patna, Oct 8 – A heated family feud in Bihar’s film and political circles just escalated as Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh and his wife, Jyoti Singh, fired back at each other with live accusations that could spill over into politics as well.
Pawan Singh, who has been a household name in northern India for years, told reporters that his wife staged a drama to grab an election ticket for herself. He said the story was a ploy and that he was the victim of a media circus. His words set the tone for a public showdown that followed.
In a press conference, Jyoti Singh raised her voice in defense and punishment. She slammed Pawan for allegedly giving her contraceptive pills without her consent. “If someone like me—who has spent fifteen years in the party and still could’t win a ticket—can’t get one for himself, how could he just hand one to his own wife?” she asked. “And if he finally accepts me as his wife, I’ll withdraw from politics and stand down from the seat.” She also revealed that she is in talks with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders about a potential ticket for the Karakat Assembly constituency.
The couple’s spat has drawn the attention of political heavyweights. Jyoti appealed emotionally to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, insisting that her identity as a “daughter of society” and “daughter‑in‑law of Bihar” should be respected. She referenced “Operation Sindoor,” a campaign launched by Modi, and urged the leaders to protect her dignity.
To counter Pawan’s claim that he dreamt of a child, Jyoti said, “People who truly want a child do not give themselves contraceptive pills. I was given pills patiently many times.” She also accused Pawan of harassing her, telling her to jump off a balcony when she was distressed. When her stress peaked, she reportedly tried to take 25 sleeping pills and was hospitalised late at night. Those incidents, she insists, prove the severity of the domestic tension.
If it isn’t enough, Jyoti said that Pawan’s fans threaten her, and that a police officer—Chief Superintendent of Police Upendra Singh from Lucknow—made a threatening statement about filing a case against her. She asked him, “What have I done to deserve this torment after seven years of marriage? When Pawan called us during the Lok Sabha elections, wasn’t the divorce case already being heard by the court?” She also accused him of re‑releasing the mangled “sindoor” during the campaign and talking to her father for hours.
Because the couple’s argument could set a precedent for other celebrity-politicians, the media is watching closely. In addition to the political fallout, Jyoti’s allegations, if proven, could bring criminal investigations into marital abuse and intimidation into the public eye.
Both parties are likely to want to press charges. Pawan denies the claims and says Jyoti is the mad one. Jyoti, on the other hand, insists that she will end her political role if Pawan ever reconciles with her. The debate has already drawn national media, and the next few days may deliver new face‑to‑face updates. The future of the Karakat seat—currently tied to RJD politics—remains in question until the parties decide whether to seat Jyoti or keep the seat open.
