Patna, Nov 10 – The second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections starts at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. 1,302 candidates will battle for 122 seats, with 1,165 men, 136 women and one third‑gender candidate in the fray.
The main showdown remains between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Grand Alliance. In a few key seats, the AIMIM and Jan Suraj Party also vie for votes.
Seats up for grabs
— 101 general seats
— 19 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC)
— 2 reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST)
The Election Commission of India (ECI) says all arrangements are ready for a peaceful and smooth poll.
Who’s voting
— 3,70,13,556 people are registered to vote in this phase, including 10,21,812 new voters.
— 1,95,56,899 registered voters are men, with 5,28,954 new male voters added after the Second Information Report (SIR).
— 1,70,68,572 registered voters are women, including 4,92,839 newly added.
— 943 voters identify as third‑gender, with 90 newly added.
— 7,69,356 are aged 18‑19 and will cast their first vote in an assembly election.
Polling stations
ECI has set up 45,399 stations: 5,326 in urban areas and 40,073 in rural areas.
- 595 stations are managed entirely by women.
- 91 are managed by persons with disabilities (PwD).
- 316 are designated as model polling stations.
All stations feature web‑casting for real‑time updates.
The average number of voters per station is 815.
Where polls will be held
The elections in this phase cover 20 districts: West Champaran, East Champaran, Supaul, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj, Katihar, Banka, Bhagalpur, Nawada, Jamui, Aurangabad, Gaya, Rohtas, Kaimur, Jehanabad and Arwal.
As the vote count starts, all eyes are on how the NDA and Grand Alliance perform, and whether the new and younger voters turn out in the numbers needed to shift the balance in Bihar.
