In Patna on Saturday, the Election Commission of India (EC) moved quickly over the murder of Dularchand Yadav in Mokama. It ordered a shake‑up inside the police force: four officers were transferred, and one was told to face suspension.
Ashish Kumar, a 2022‑batch IAS officer who had been the Patna Municipal Commissioner, will now serve as Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) in Barh. CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anand Kumar Singh moves to the Barh‑I sub‑district (SD) office, replacing Rakesh Kumar. ATS DSP Ayush Srivastava takes over as Barh‑II SD office head, taking the place of Abhishek Singh. The EC also removed the Patna Rural SP, Vikram Sihag, from front‑line duties and has requested a full report on the case by noon on November 2.
The move follows earlier EC instructions to the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) and the Patna District Magistrate (DM) to explain what went wrong in the Yadav case. The death sparks a clash between supporters of JD(U) candidate Anant Singh and Jan Suraj’s Piyush “Lallu” Mukhiya in Mokama. Initially, people said Yadav died from a gunshot wound, but a post‑mortem panel of three doctors concluded he was killed when a vehicle ran over his chest, shattering his ribs and rupturing his lungs.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya S. Sharma said four FIRs have already been lodged, including ones from each candidate, a Market Control Committee violation, and an incident of stone‑throwing during the body’s transport. He added that several suspects have been arrested and are being questioned. Police on the ground remain ready, with extra officers deployed and video evidence under review.
SSP Sharma warned that anyone threatening the victim’s family will face harsh punishment and asked the public to stop spreading rumors online. Notably, two Sub‑Inspector’s Assistant (SHOs) were suspended for negligence. Investigations continue; more updates will follow.
