Patna, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – A disturbing incident has taken place near the Vidyapati police station in Samastipur, where a quartet of men pretending to be officers snatched goats that were bought through Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Women’s Employment Scheme.
The theft happened on a Friday in Dhaneshwarpur South Panchayat, Ward 9, while Champa Devi and her family were asleep. A four‑wheel drive appeared at their doorstep and the men inside roused the occupants. “They claimed to be police looking for a liquor‑mafia suspect,” she said, adding that the men forcefully broke into the house.
Inside, they seized the four goats that Champa had purchased with the ₹10,000 aid she received under the scheme. When she tried to stop them, the accused allegedly brandished a pistol, insulted her, and threatened her life. “They said they were police and that a liquor mafia had passed that way. They showed a pistol and told us to move aside. Fearing for our lives, we stepped back. They loaded all four goats into their vehicle and fled,” Champa recounted.
The same group reportedly went on to a nearby house where they stole three more goats – also bought with government funding. By the time the villagers realised what was happening, the thieves had vanished with all seven animals.
Residents are calling for decisive police action, but the Vidyapati station said it will only act once it receives a formal complaint. “A report of theft has been received, but no application has been filed yet. Action will be taken as soon as we receive it. The gang involved is being investigated,” explained Suraj Kumar, a police officer at the station.
Goat‑theft incidents are not uncommon in the area, with robbers usually arriving in four‑wheel drives rather than on bikes or on foot, which makes speedy chases difficult. In a previous case, villagers even held a Deputy Superintendent of Police hostage after mistaking him for a goat thief.
Under the Women’s Employment Scheme, the Chief Minister provides women with ₹10,000 to start income‑generating activities. So far, 156,000 women have received the initial grant. After a six‑month review, those who demonstrate successful outcomes become eligible for an additional ₹2 lakh to scale their ventures.
