‘Single Salma’ shows increased after Huma Qureshi raises the issue of low screen count

Mumbai, Nov 2 – The battle over how many cinema screens a film can grab isn’t going away. Actress‑producer Huma Qureshi took to Instagram this week to complain that her new movie, Single Salma, got only a handful of theatres across India. The Bollywood talent was relieved when one of India’s biggest theatre chains lifted the show count in Kolkata, and she posted an enthusiastic “Come on” story to thank the chain.
Qureshi has long warned that smaller, story‑driven films struggle to get enough screen time when they face blockbuster titles. “For movies like Single Salma, the struggle is real,” she wrote. “We don’t bring huge marketing budgets or star‑power buzz, and that makes it harder for heartfelt, content‑driven stories to find a place in theatres. The system still likes the safer, bigger titles, but what we really need is a balance.”
After her post, fans from cities such as Lucknow, Patna, Delhi and Kolkata reached out to Qureshi, urging theatre owners to add more screenings for Single Salma. Many moviegoers shared screenshots of sold‑out or unavailable shows, asking for a wider release so more audiences can see the film.
Her comments sparked a broader debate in the film industry about creating an equitable distribution system. The goal is to give every well‑told story, whether it’s a big‑budget blockbuster or a modest indie, a fair chance to connect with viewers.
The issue isn’t new. Actor Harshvardhan Rane recently highlighted a similar problem when his film, Ek Deewane ki Deewaniyat, struggled for screen space. Rane posted on Instagram, “Being taken lightly fuels me. I am now used to being underestimated.” He added that the same pattern happened in February 2025 with the re‑release of Sanam Teri Kasam, and that it’s resurfacing again.
Both actors show that the fight for fair screen allocation is ongoing. For now, Bollywood’s small‑budget projects, like Single Salma, continue to push for more theatrical representation, hoping that future releases will finally get the wider audience they deserve.
