BJP conspiring to delete three crore voters in UP: Akhilesh Yadav

Hyderabad, Dec 12 – On Friday, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the BJP is planning to strip three crore names from the state’s voter register through a supposed “Special Intensive Revision” operation.
Speaking to press here, Yadav alleged that the BJP and the Election Commission colluded to erase ballots in seats where the party had lost. “This is not SIR. This is NRC under the guise of SIR. They could not have directly implemented NRC and are now implementing it indirectly. They are asking people to show papers. These are the papers one has to show whenever NRC is going to be implemented,” he said.
He noted that Aadhaar cards were being rejected, a fact he calls “very unfortunate.” Expressing concerns about the SIR, he added, “First they troubled people with demonetisation and later harassed traders with GST and now bothering people with SIT.”
Earlier on Thursday, the SP president voiced confidence that Telangana’s political scene is on the brink of change and that the electorate will gladly back the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) again, provided the party stays close to voters. He emphasized that parties that stand firmly for the people’s needs will inevitably win public support.
Yadav also reached out to BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao. Afterwards, he told journalists that volatility is inherent in politics. “Sometimes people accept us and sometimes they give us an opportunity to reassess,” he remarked in reference to BRS’s loss in the 2023 assembly polls. He recalled a time when his party had only a handful of seats but remained embedded among the populace. “People supported us and today BJP is number two there,” he added.
The leader said that the timing of public backing is unpredictable. He expressed hope for change, stating, “The country needs to march on the path of progress with a vision. The politics of division should end. Negativity in politics should end. Positivity should come. Progress should be discussed. We will continue to work in that direction.” He also added, “KCR and KTR are our friends. I have been with them and I will always remain with them,” when asked about his relations with Telangana’s leaders.
K.T. Rama Rao praised Yadav’s leadership, noting that despite his party’s loss in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, it delivered a strong showing in recent Lok Sabha polls, making the SP the third‑largest party in India. He expressed confidence that the BRS will similarly “bounce back” in Telangana. He indicated that party leaders had discussed various matters with Yadav and that the SP chief will meet KCR again during his next visit to Hyderabad.
Yadav also called on Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Jubilee Hills residence; the CM’s office described the visit as a courtesy call. They discussed the current political climate. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy explained the development and welfare initiatives underway by the congress government in Telangana. Yadav praised the CM for recognizing Sadar, a beloved Yadav festival, as a state festival. He said that the Yadav community nationwide will always remember CM Revanth Reddy and that the CM will remain in their hearts. He thanked the chief minister for the political acknowledgment given to the Yadav community in Telangana.
The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, Ramagundam MLA Raj Thakur, and senior Congress leader Rohin Reddy.
