BJP flays Madani, Akhilesh Yadav & Mamata over ‘divisive narratives’

Bhubaneswar, Nov 29 ( LatestNewsX ) – BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra took to the stage in Bhubaneswar on Saturday and launched a blistering criticism at three of the country’s most prominent opposition figures: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, and Maulana Mehmood Madani, the head of Jamiat Ulema‑e‑Hind. Patra charged that all three have been “divisive narratives, misinformation and corruption”.

He singled out Madani for a recent address given to the Jamiat Ulema‑e‑Hind governing council in Bhopal. Patra described the remarks as “inflammatory and divisive”. “Madani spoke of dividing the nation and resorting to jihad in case of aggression,” he said. “Such statements are dangerous, irresponsible and deeply objectionable.” According to Patra, the comments were a calculated move to “mislead” the Muslim community and “create unrest” in the country.

The BJP leader also took issue with Madani’s claim that the Supreme Court is swayed by the government and that it “should not be called Supreme.” Patra called it a “deliberate attempt to erode public faith in constitutional institutions.” “Even an ordinary citizen making such allegations would face strict scrutiny,” Patra added. He urged the court to take suo motu cognisance of what he called “baseless and provocative” statements.

Patra went on to attack Madani’s criticism of “Vande Mataram.” He stressed that the national song is “the soul of India” and not a religious chant but a tribute to Mother India. He reminded the crowd that the nation’s 150th year of independence is being celebrated, and that countless freedom fighters sacrificed their lives singing the anthem.

Turning to the Samajwadi Party, Patra accused Akhilesh Yadav of deliberately sowing confusion over the Centre’s Special Incentive Rules (SIR). “Akhilesh falsely claimed that SIR will end jobs, abolish reservations and increase prices. This shows a complete lack of understanding,” said Patra. “He should first read and understand what SIR actually is before politicising it for electoral gain.”

He extended the accusation to other opposition figures, naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Patra alleged that they routinely “create panic before every election” whenever they sense defeat.

In the midst of these political rebukes, Patra highlighted India’s latest economic performance. He hailed the country’s second‑quarter GDP growth of 8.2 % as “historic,” noting that it far exceeded global expectations of 6.5–7.5 %. He claimed that agriculture, services, industry and the digital economy were all surging ahead, a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic framing.

Addressing Mamata Banerjee, Patra alleged a Rs 100‑crore scam in the distribution of flood‑compensation funds in West Bengal’s Malda district. “Funds meant for 14,000 affected beneficiaries were unlawfully diverted,” he said. Patra stated that the Calcutta High Court had already ordered a second CAG audit after the first report revealed serious irregularities. He accused the Trinamool Congress government of shielding the guilty officials and beneficiaries.

Wrapping up the press conference, Patra emphasized that while India continues to break economic records and advance across sectors, “certain opposition forces are trying to cast a shadow through statements on jihad, falsehoods on policy matters and corruption scandals.” He declared, “India stands for development, unity and progress. The people of the country are with Prime Minister Modi, not with the politics of division.”
