Congress MP blasts RSS after Digvijaya Singh’s praise sparks backlash
New Delhi – In a sharp comeback to senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh’s recent tribute to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on social media, Congress MP Manickam Tagore launched a fierce attack on the organisation, saying the party has “nothing to learn” from the RSS.
Tagore, speaking on Sunday, stated, “The RSS is an organisation of hatred. It spreads hatred, breeds hatred and carries out propaganda based on hate. There is nothing to learn from the RSS.” He went on to compare the group to al‑Qaeda, saying, “In the way al‑Qaeda operates through bloodshed, the RSS too does the same work inside the country—spreading hatred.”
Emphasising the Congress’s grassroots base, Tagore added, “Congress is a people’s party, a grounded party. From village to village, people are connected with our party. Congress does not need to learn anything from the RSS.” The remarks were aimed at countering Singh’s comments praising the BJP and its ideological parent, the RSS, for their organisational strength.
Singh’s post, which surfaced on X, featured an old black‑and‑white image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside BJP elder Lal Krishna Advani. In Hindi, he explained the picture illustrated how an RSS volunteer and a Jan Sangh/BJP worker could rise together to chief minister and, ultimately, prime minister—what he described as “the power of organisation.”
The BJP quickly responded, with senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad mocking the Congress for belatedly recognising the BJP’s organisational prowess. Within Congress itself, reactions were mixed: some leaders defended Singh’s acknowledgment of organisational efficiency while rejecting the RSS ideology outright.
Tagore’s comments represent one of the strongest rebuttals from the Congress, clearly distancing the party from any perceived admiration of the RSS by its own veteran figures.
