India’s cricket team sparked celebrations across the country after clinching the Asia Cup title with a thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan in the final in Dubai. But the victory came with a bold statement: the players refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board and serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari hailed the team’s decision as a smart move. “Everyone’s thrilled about the win,” Tiwari told . “India has to compete in these international tournaments—we can’t rewrite the rules. But the players did an outstanding job by not taking the trophy from a Pakistani official.”
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya joined the fun with a sharp dig at Pakistan on social media. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Operation Sindoor on the games field” comment, Mandaviya posted on X: “Lost on the border, lost in the field too.”
Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also sent his cheers, praising the Indian team’s unbeaten streak throughout the Asia Cup. “Congratulations to the Indian Cricket Team on their spectacular win over Pakistan in the nail-biting Asia Cup Final,” he wrote on X. “They stayed unbeaten with all-round brilliance. Keep the momentum going and bring more glory to India!”
The Asia Cup triumph marked India’s second T20I title and ninth overall, counting the ODI versions. Tilak Varma starred in the tense run-chase with an unbeaten 69 off 53 balls, including three fours and four sixes. His partnerships—a 57-run stand with Sanju Samson (24 off 21) and a crucial half-century link-up with Shivam Dube (33 off 22)—pulled India back from an early wobble at 20/3 after Faheem Ashraf’s burst of 3/29. Rinku Singh sealed the deal with the winning runs.
Pakistan posted 146 all out in 19.1 overs after India won the toss and chose to bowl. Openers Sahidzada Farhan (57 off 38, with four boundaries and three sixes) and Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35, two fours and two sixes) built an 84-run platform. But India’s spinners turned the tide: Kuldeep Yadav grabbed 4/30, Varun Chakravarthy took 2/30, and Jasprit Bumrah mopped up with 2/25 to collapse Pakistan from 113/1.
Fans and experts alike buzzed about the India vs Pakistan rivalry, with this Asia Cup final highlighting why these matches always deliver edge-of-your-seat drama in cricket.
