In Puri, Odisha, BJP MP Sambit Patra and Bollywood actor Jaya Prada rolled up their sleeves for a beach cleanup on Saturday. They joined locals in the International Coastal Cleanup Day efforts at Puri beach, focusing on a nearby fishermen’s village to tackle trash and boost environmental awareness.
Patra highlighted how this cleanup fits right into the BJP’s Seva Pakhwada, a two-week community service drive running from September 17 to October 2. “The Seva Pakhwada marks Prime Minister Modi’s birthday and wraps up on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary,” he told reporters. He stressed that the beach cleanup plays a key role in the initiative, helping keep India’s coastal areas clean and green.
The BJP kicked off Seva Pakhwada nationwide to celebrate these milestones. Party leaders are organizing blood donation camps, more cleanliness drives, and exhibitions that spotlight the central government’s key achievements in areas like health, environment, and development. To make it all happen smoothly, the party tapped National General Secretary Sunil Bansal as coordinator. He’s working with ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other leaders to roll out events in their regions.
International Coastal Cleanup Day happens every year on the third Saturday in September. It started as a global call to action against rising beach pollution, urging people everywhere to pick up litter and commit to a healthier planet. Events like the one in Puri show how small steps can make a big difference for our oceans and communities.
