With the Vice-Presidential election just around the corner, BJP Members of Parliament are taking part in special workshops this weekend at the Parliament complex in New Delhi.
The two-day event, held at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium, is designed to sharpen the skills of BJP MPs. The sessions focus on key areas like effective law-making, governance strategies, and improving communication with the public. A major goal is to discuss how to effectively push the central government’s development plans and counter the Opposition’s narrative.
The first day featured a day-long workshop on Sunday. A second, three-hour session is planned for Monday. Following the workshop’s conclusion, all attending MPs are set to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a dinner meeting.
The timing is crucial, as the Vice-Presidential election is scheduled for the very next day, on September 9.
Explaining the purpose behind these workshops, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Gulam Ali Khatana stated, “As the largest party in the world, such workshops are a regular activity for us. We will discuss the important responsibilities an MP holds towards the nation.”
Other MPs echoed this sentiment. BJP’s Jagdambika Pal said these sessions guide elected representatives on how to work effectively in their constituencies on development and public outreach. He compared it to “refresher courses” held in other fields to keep skills sharp.
Adding to this, BJP MP Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar highlighted that it’s a party tradition to hold a briefing before important votes to “ensure there is no carelessness.”
The upcoming Vice-Presidential election will be decided by an electoral college of 788 members, which includes all elected MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, plus 12 nominated members.
The race is between the NDA’s candidate, Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, and the INDIA bloc’s candidate, former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy.
