Body of Howrah-based businessman recovered from Hooghly district in Bengal

Police in West Bengal discovered the body of a 30-year-old gemstone trader from Howrah district near Kolkata on Wednesday evening. The man, identified as Wasim Akram, had gone missing from his home since September 28, sparking a frantic search by his family and local officers.

Akram’s body turned up in a rented flat at a residential complex in Chandannagar, Hooghly district—just as the Durga Puja festival wrapped up on the final day of Maha Navami. The discovery has shocked the community, with early signs pointing to foul play.

Family members reported Akram missing that same evening to the Golabari Police Station in Howrah. They now believe he was murdered over business rivalries in the competitive gemstone trade. Adding to the tragedy, Akram’s wedding was set for October 28.

Investigators say Akram’s hands were bound with tape, and his mouth was sealed with another piece. They also found a large trolley bag in the room where his body lay. The flat belonged to Kazi Mohsin, another gemstone trader and Akram’s business associate. Police have already arrested Mohsin as they dig deeper into the case.

Right now, Akram’s body is at the morgue for a post-mortem exam. That report will reveal the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, West Bengal police are launching a full investigation into this mysterious gemstone trader murder in Chandannagar, piecing together what led to this heartbreaking end during the festive season.
