Agartala, Tripura – On October 10, the Border Security Force (BSF) shut down several smuggling attempts along the Indo‑Bangladesh border, seizing foreign‑made goods worth about Rs 8.5 lakh and rescuing 17 cattle that were hidden in different parts of the state.
The BSF team at Border Out Post (BOP) Rangoti, which falls under Police Station Irani in Unakoti district, carried out the operation on Wednesday and Thursday. Soldiers snatched a cache of Patron cigarettes, cosmetics and other contraband, all of which were valued at Rs 8.5 lakh. The same team also intercepted cattle that were being moved across the border, saving them from illegal trade.
BSF officials say the force has stepped up patrols and used coordinated intelligence to prevent transborder smuggling. “Vigilant patrolling and real‑time intelligence have been key to curbing cross‑border crime,” an officer at the Salbagan headquarters noted.
In a separate operation near the India‑Pakistan border, BSF troops in Punjab recovered dangerous items. On Monday evening, a plastic bottle containing a pistol slide assembly was found near Naushera Dhalla village in Tarn Taran district. The bottle, wrapped in yellow tape and marked with a metal loop, showed signs of a drone drop. Just a day later, soldiers seized a packet holding 75 live 9 mm rounds from a field close to Rajoke village. The ammunition bears the stamp of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory, indicating a link to Pakistan‑based terror networks.
According to the BSF, careful surveillance and committed efforts helped stop a Pakistan‑sponsored smuggling plot aimed at bringing arms into India.
These actions underscore the Border Security Force’s ongoing commitment to keeping India’s borders secure – from Tripura’s Indo‑Bangladesh frontier to Punjab’s India‑Pakistan line.
