Senior Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal skips cabinet meeting over Hyderabad Gazette controversy In a significant development in Maharashtra politics, senior OBC leader and NCP Minister Chhagan Bhujbal did not attend the state cabinet meeting on Wednesday. This came just a day after the Maharashtra government issued a resolution concerning the Hyderabad Gazette, which could impact the inclusion of Maratha communities in the OBC list. Bhujbal explained that he had a pre-scheduled appointment and was present for the pre-Cabinet meeting but chose not to attend the main cabinet session. He also mentioned that the government’s resolution is being carefully examined by legal experts to assess its legal implications. Sources within the NCP said that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar spoke with Bhujbal over the phone, likely trying to address his concerns. However, Bhujbal remained firm in his decision not to be part of the cabinet meeting. Later, Bhujbal issued a statement urging OBC communities to stay calm and let the legal review process take its course. He appealed to everyone not to indulge in protests, such as burning or tearing government documents, while the legal process is underway. Bhujbal also called for unity among OBC groups during ongoing protests led by Manoj Jarange-Patil in Mumbai. He has been active in advocating for OBC issues through organizations like the Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad. He emphasized the importance of patience and advised OBC members not to resort to extreme measures until the government’s decision is clear. When asked whether Bhujbal boycotted the cabinet meeting, Shiv Sena Minister Uday Samant said, “I don’t know if he boycotted it, but his chair was empty.” Additionally, Bhujbal skipped a dinner hosted by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his official residence, which was organized during the ongoing Ganesh festival. This development highlights ongoing tensions around the inclusion of communities in the OBC list and shows Bhujbal’s cautious stance amidst political debates on the issue.
