Women Power Up Green Crackers in Chhattisgarh for Eco-Friendly Diwali

In Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, a fantastic initiative is turning heads this Diwali season. Under the "Local for Vocal" campaign, around 200 women are stepping up to produce green crackers—those eco-friendly fireworks that cut down on pollution. This move not only empowers local women but also makes celebrations greener and safer.

One woman from the green firecracker factory shared her excitement with . "Thanks to this project, so many of us can now support our families," she said. She explained that 24 women’s groups are involved, helping about 200 participants gain financial independence. "These green crackers let us stand on our own feet without harming the environment," she added. It’s a win-win for sustainability and women’s empowerment in Chhattisgarh.

Sivakasi’s Fun Firecracker Twist: Themed Packs for Kids

Shifting gears to Tamil Nadu, the famous Sivakasi hub in Virudhunagar district buzzes with activity. Firecracker manufacturers here are rolling out exciting new products to thrill kids this Diwali. Think jungle-themed boxes featuring lions, wolves, and tigers—perfect for little adventurers!

But that’s not all. They’ve gone creative with food-inspired designs like pizza and watermelon crackers. Popular cartoons, games, music themes, and more are drawing in children of all ages. Sivakasi, known as India’s firecracker capital, never disappoints with its innovative fireworks.

Local seller Usha Nandini told , "Every year, Sivakasi brings fresh varieties. This time, we’ve got fireworks shaped like kids’ favorite foods and cartoon characters. Parents are snapping them up for the children, and sales are booming!"

Factories Back in Action After Safety Checks

Earlier this year, over 200 firecracker factories in Virudhunagar shut down for about nine days in July. The closures followed strict inspections after a string of factory explosions raised safety concerns. They reopened on July 23, just in time to ramp up production—thanks to warnings that licenses could get canceled otherwise.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) stepped in with suo motu action, ordering immediate checks on all factories in the district. This push ensures safer practices amid the Diwali rush.

As India gears up for festive lights and sounds, these stories highlight how green initiatives and fun innovations are shaping a brighter, cleaner celebration.
