CM Bhagwant Mann condemns attack on CJI Gavai, terms it as “reflection of anti-SC mindset of BJP”

Chandigarh, Punjab — Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann condemned an attempted shoe‑throwing aimed at the Chief Justice of India. He said the act reflects anti‑Scheduled Caste sentiment being promoted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to reporters while the state voted on industrialist Rajinder Gupta’s nomination for the Rajya Sabha, Mann called the BJP’s rhetoric “venomous propaganda” that hurts the poor and under‑privileged. “Such a stunt threatens our judicial system and national harmony,” he said.

Mann praised the Chief Justice for his hard work and called the shoe‑throwing a “dastardly act” that aims to undermine the judiciary. He warned that the state will keep a tight watch on law and order ahead of the festivals.

“Punjab is a border state and attracts troublemakers,” Mann told the press. “The police are ready to respond decisively. No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.” He urged people to celebrate Diwali safely and eco‑friendly, noting the rise in firecracker injuries every year.

The CM also warned traders to avoid adulterated sweets during the festive season and said the health department would conduct a strict check. He encouraged the use of organic products for better health.

During the same press conference, Mann spoke jokingly about former minister Navjot Sidhu’s return to politics. “Anyone can leave or join politics whenever they wish. We’re glad Sidhu is back in the public eye,” he said, adding a polite well‑wish for the cricketer‑turned‑politician.

When asked about the recent floods that also affected Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, Mann dismissed opposition criticism as frustration. “Floods are natural. No one can be blamed,” he said. “We’re already preparing a compensation plan. The central government will fund the recovery.”

Mann expressed sorrow over the deaths of beloved Punjabi singer Rajvir Jwanda and bodybuilder Varinder Ghuman. He called their losses a huge blow to the state’s culture and sports.

Throughout the day, the Punjab government emphasized safety, fair food, and swift flood relief while sternly warning against BJP‑driven divisive narratives and celebrating the state’s upcoming festivals.
