Bhopal, 13 Dec—Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, greeted the three blind cricketers who helped India clinch the first ever T20 World Cup for visually impaired women in Colombo last month. Sunita Sarathe, Sushma Patel and Durga Yewale, all hailing from the state, were received at the CM’s home where they were awarded a shawl as a token of appreciation. In a post on X, Yadav praised the team, stating:
“Today, I had a heartfelt meeting with Susma, Sunita and Durga, the daughter of the state and members of the Indian women’s cricket team that won the T20 World Cup for the visually impaired,”
He went on:
“These daughters have enhanced the pride of the state as well as the entire country through their excellent performance in sport. Heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for this historic achievement.”
The visit followed earlier concerns that state‑wide officials had raised about the lack of recognition for the players. Sonu Golkar, General Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association for the Blind and coach of the squad, had complained that despite their world‑champion status the team had not received any government support.
The tournament in Sri Lanka, which was the debut of blind women’s T20 cricket on the global stage, featured six nations—India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Australia, Pakistan and the United States. India dominated the competition and defeated Nepal in the final to become the inaugural champions.
