CM Rekha Gupta hails media’s role in countering misinformation

New Delhi, Nov 16 – Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called the spread of misinformation, rumours and misleading content “a serious challenge” on National Press Day. She urged journalists to keep reporting facts and to set high ethical standards.

In a short message, the CM said that today’s media must “uphold factual accuracy, strengthen journalistic standards, and provide society with clear, credible and truthful information.” She sent warm greetings to reporters, media staff and all press professionals.

Gupta stressed that free, fearless and impartial journalism is the backbone of a democracy. The press “brings public‑interest issues to the forefront, ensures transparency in governance and holds institutions accountable.” She called journalism a “noble public service” that requires courage, integrity, consistency and a steadfast commitment to core values.

“Our information‑driven world relies on journalists who deliver accurate, balanced and reliable news,” she added. She highlighted the media’s vital role in shaping public opinion and building a strong, educated and participatory society.

“I hope journalists will continue to carry out their duties with dedication, sensitivity and professional integrity,” Gupta said, emphasizing journalism’s power to connect the government with the people.

Later in the day, the CM attended a Delhi BJP meeting to plan a winning strategy for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bye‑elections scheduled for November 30 across 12 seats.
