Mohanlal releases hair-raising trailer of Pranav Mohanlal’s eagerly awaited horror thriller Dies Irae!
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal thrilled fans on Wednesday by dropping the chilling trailer for the upcoming horror thriller Dies Irae. Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, the film stars Mohanlal’s son, Pranav Mohanlal, in the lead role—marking an exciting father-son collaboration in Malayalam cinema.
Mohanlal shared the trailer on his X account with a simple post: "#DIESIRAE official trailer. @impranavlal." Previously known as #NSS2, Dies Irae builds suspense right from the start. The trailer opens with an intense conversation between an elderly woman and a man. She urges him, "You should have spoken up when you realized something was wrong with the kid." He fires back, "How could I tell people what I felt? What would they think?" Her reply hits hard: "And now, didn’t that feeling turn out to be true?"
Viewers quickly learn the "kid" is Pranav’s character, the only son in a family neighbors see as cursed. Strange, eerie events unfold around him, but he stays silent because no one would believe his story. This setup promises a gripping tale of unspoken horrors in Dies Irae.
Drawing from real-life incidents, the movie heads to theaters this Halloween, perfect timing for spooky season fans. What really amps up the buzz? The creative team behind Dies Irae is the same one that delivered the cult hit Brammayugam, starring Mammootty. That 2024 period horror, set in Kerala’s shadowy past, wowed critics with its black-and-white visuals and focused on just three main characters: Mammootty, Sidharth Bharathan, Arjun Ashokan, and Amalda Liz. It featured sharp dialogues by novelist TD Ramakrishnan, famous for Francis Itty Cora.
Production on Dies Irae kicked off in late March and wrapped up even faster than planned—by April, all in just 40 days at locations in Vadakara, Calicut. Shehnad Jalal returns as cinematographer after his acclaimed work on Brammayugam. Jothish Shankar handles art direction, and Shafique Mohammed Ali takes editing duties, bringing the same fresh energy that made the earlier film a standout in Malayalam horror movies.
