CM Stalin to visit Ramanathapuram today; drones banned for two days

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin heads to Ramanathapuram district this Thursday evening as part of his statewide outreach push ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. This visit highlights his efforts to connect directly with voters and showcase the government’s work.

Stalin will fly from Chennai to Madurai before driving to Ramanathapuram. Local DMK leaders, including Minister Raja Kannappan and district secretary Katharpathi Muthuramalingam, along with key officials, plan to welcome him at Parthibanur on the district border. He’ll then head to Ramanathapuram town and stay overnight at the government guest house in the Collectorate complex.

On Friday morning, Stalin kicks off a big government event at Peravoor, just outside Ramanathapuram. There, he’ll cut the ribbon on finished projects like the shiny new Ramanathapuram bus stand and lay the groundwork for upcoming developments. Around 54,000 people stand to benefit from welfare packages handed out during the program.

The event draws top attendees, from ministers and MPs to MLAs and senior bureaucrats. For security, the district police chief has banned drones and other unmanned aircraft for two days in spots like Parthibanur, Peravoor, and the Collectorate area. This ensures everything runs smoothly without any hitches.

These trips form part of Stalin’s busy district tours, which ramped up in mid-2024. He mixes administrative check-ins with face-to-face chats with locals. Over the last year, he’s hit places like Thanjavur, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, and the Nilgiris to roll out welfare schemes, review flood defenses, and eye progress on development projects.

DMK leaders see these visits as key to strengthening their support and pushing back against opposition moves from groups like the AIADMK-BJP alliance and Vijay’s rising Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. With the 2026 polls on the horizon, Stalin’s local engagements spotlight the party’s track record on governance and build stronger ties with communities.

Friday’s Ramanathapuram gathering should pull in big crowds, putting the spotlight on the government’s welfare drives and infrastructure boosts in Tamil Nadu’s southern regions.
