Freed sex offender allegedly poses as doctor, sexually assaults student at Arizona elementary school: police

A 25‑year‑old man who was released from prison two weeks ago is now accused of posing as a doctor and sexually assaulting a girl at Orangewood Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona. Police say the suspect, Abel Kai Gblah, entered the school, lured a student into a classroom, and attacked her before fleeing.
The Phoenix Police Department responded after school officials called 911. Officers found evidence that Gblah had been on campus for about ten minutes and had made inappropriate contact with an elementary student. The girl managed to push him away just before police arrived, and he ran from the scene.
Gblah has a record of sexual offenses. He was convicted twice in 2021 for sexual conduct with a minor and for being a registered sex offender. He was also linked to human smuggling across the U.S. border. He was released from prison on similar charges and is now being held on a $500,000 cash‑only bond while awaiting a preliminary hearing on December 1.
Orangewood Elementary placed the school on lockdown for more than an hour. District officials confirmed that Gblah had attended the school from 2012 to 2015 and that he entered the campus through an unlocked lobby door, not by following a student who buzzed him in. In the wake of the incident, a staff member was put on administrative leave and the district is reviewing all safety protocols to prevent a repeat.
Parents and community members are demanding answers and tighter security. School leadership has urged calm and emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. The case highlights growing concerns about school safety and the need for stricter verification of people on campuses.
