Saifuddin, Ankon return for Bangladesh’s first two T20Is against Ireland

Bangladesh’s national team has chosen Mohammad Saifuddin and Mahidul Islam Ankon to open the first two ties in the upcoming three‑match T20I series against Ireland. These selections differ from the lineup that faced the West Indies earlier in November.
Saifuddin, who was back in the T20 circuit after helping Bangladesh win the Afghanistan tour in Sharjah, is looking to bring his experience to the crease. Ankon, with only a single Test and three ODIs under his belt and no prior T20I experience, now gets a fresh opportunity to cement his spot in the top order.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain noted that Taskin Ahmed and Shamim Hossain were left out because of commitments in the Abu Dhabi T10 league. “Taskin has an NOC, so he is not available to us currently,” Hossain said. “We know that he will play for Bangladesh whenever we ask him to, but we are well aware of the plans.” When asked about Shamim, Hossain explained that the gap was intentionally left to test new talent at the front of the batting lineup: “We haven’t considered Shamim Hossain for the first two T20Is. We have picked Mahidul Islam so that we can try someone in the top four.”
All three games will be staged in Chattogram on 27 November, 29 November and 2 December as Bangladesh refines its T20I strategy ahead of a demanding 2025 schedule.
