New Delhi, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened a special debate in the Lok Sabha on Monday to honour the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram.” He called the song an eternal anthem of India, a timeless mantra that has galvanized countless generations.
During the Parliament’s Winter Session, Singh accused the Congress party of adopting a strategy of appeasement that, according to him, undermined the spirit of the anthem and even helped spark the Partition. “It is a complete song on its own,” he said. “Yet people tried to strip it away. No matter how many attempts were made, it has still stood as our nation’s immortal hymn.”
The minister urged younger people to understand the mindset of those who had tried to dilute the song, calling it a grave injustice to India’s cultural and national heritage. He recalled that in 1906 the first Indian flag bore “Vande Mataram” at its center, and that same year a newspaper named Vande Mataram appeared in Bengal to spread public awareness.
“At that time, Vande Mataram was more than just words,” Singh added. “It was a feeling, a source of inspiration, and a poem that moved hearts.”
He highlighted that the anthem was not confined to Bengal; it echoed throughout the country, from east to west, and even beyond its borders, where it served as a rallying cry for unity and resistance. According to the Defence Minister, “Vande Mataram” became the pulse of India, embodying sacrifice, courage, and a shared drive for freedom.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Singh said the nation would celebrate the 150 years of “Vande Mataram” with the respect and dignity it deserves. He stressed that the hymn continues to motivate India’s push for self‑reliance and progress, reminding citizens of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.
In closing, Singh reaffirmed that “Vande Mataram” remains a timeless credo of dedication and unity, urging both the House and the broader public to honour its legacy and ensure its spirit guides India toward a stronger, self‑reliant future.
