KTR Slams Congress as Telangana Faces Development Backtrack

BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress-led government and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of erasing the progress achieved in the past decade of BRS rule. Speaking at a gathering of newly elected village heads (sarpanches) in Nagarkurnool on Sunday, he blasted the ruling party for reversing the gains made in Palamuru (Mahabubnagar) district and sending the area back into distress and mass migration.

KTR said the Congress administration has stalled key irrigation and development projects that were completed under former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). He claimed that only about ten percent of the work that began during the two‑year stay of the current government has been finished, and that the state’s water allocations have been undermined. In particular, he referred to the Palamuru‑Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, asserting that roughly 90 percent of the project was completed by the KCR regime before the current government cancelled approved tenders and halted progress.

“Palamuru was green and prosperous under KCR’s leadership. Today, without even lifting a handful of soil, the Chief Minister is indulging in irresponsible and abusive rhetoric. Congress has once again turned Palamuru into a migration district by stalling projects and drying up irrigation,” KTR said, underscoring how the decline in irrigation supplies has pushed farmers to seek alternative livelihoods.

KTR also highlighted the agricultural crisis, noting that the Congress administration has replaced the “Rythu Bandhu” scheme—a farmers’ support program—with what he called the “Ra‑Bandhu” (Vulture) regime. He pointed out that farmers now have to queue for urea fertilizer in harsh weather, whereas during the KCR tenure fertilizers were reliably available. “Revanth Reddy cares little for farmers. During KCR’s tenure, there was never a shortage of urea, and farmers received fertilisers as they needed them,” he added.

At the meeting, KTR challenged the Chief Minister to publicly swear to an uninterrupted supply of urea to farmers and to implement the promised ₹4,000 pension scheme. “Wherever Congress is in power, there is no progress,” he said, predicting that BRS will return once the remaining two years of the current government expire.

Reaffirming his support for farmers, KTR said former Chief Minister KCR is preparing another phase of struggle to safeguard Telangana’s water interests and to defend the Palamuru‑Rangareddy project. He announced that KCR will soon visit Palamuru and urged locals to rally behind the movement.
