On December 10, BJP’s Karnataka president and MLA Vijayendra took the floor in Belagavi’s assembly to slam the Congress administration for what he says is a slow‑moving and uneven approach to developing North Karnataka. He warned that this persistent neglect is pushing people toward the idea of a separate state and that “The region’s development has been neglected. Krishna river water allocation is unfair, and there’s anxiety about Tungabhadra project justice.” He added that the demand for a separate state has surfaced repeatedly over the years.
Vijayendra criticized the government for failing to supply farmers with quality seeds, adequate market facilities, and timely compensation. He pointed out that “The government is failing to address issues like price drop, compensation, and irrigation project implementation,” and urged authorities to act without delay. Regarding the Tungabhadra dam, he demanded ₹25,000 per acre for affected farmers and denounced the current ministry’s indifference, stressing the urgent need for project execution and job creation.
He also accused the ruling party of not fulfilling its electoral promises, particularly in budget considerations for the region. He called on officials to tackle unemployment and streamline the Karnataka Public Service Commission’s recruitment process. “The government’s neglect is forcing people to demand a separate state. It’s time they wake up and address the issues,” he warned.
In another critique, Vijayendra recalled that when his father, former CM B. S. Yediyurappa, held office, the government paid more than the standard compensation for those who lost homes to floods and also covered crop losses. “Even as sugarcane farmers were protesting, the current minister did not bother to visit them,” he said.
