In Bengaluru today, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, blasted the Congress party for what he called “vote theft” in Karnataka’s last assembly elections. He made the remarks while greeting the newly launched Ernakulam‑KSR Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express at Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station.
“Why are the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister accusing the BJP of stealing votes when they themselves came to power by stealing votes?” Kumaraswamy said. “If that were not true, how could they predict with such certainty that they would win 136 seats?” he added.
Kumaraswamy pointed the finger at Congress for its own accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Did Modi steal votes to let the BJP win 67 seats in Karnataka?” he asked. “Congress leaders are spreading lies that distract people from real problems the state is facing.”
The minister criticized the joint press conference where the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister spoke about vote theft, calling it a diversion tactic. “It’s petty politics, nothing more than a way to shift attention away from the public’s real concerns,” he said.
When reporters asked why former Karnataka Minister H.D. Shivakumar was missing from the Vande Bharat event, Kumaraswamy said Shivakumar is too busy with “vote‑theft politics” and has no time for development work.
Kumaraswamy slammed Congress for what he called a “big lie” about vote theft—a claim he said had wasted time for the past two and a half years and would do the same in the next two plus years. He warned that Karnataka voters will soon send Congress out of state politics.
The comments come amid ongoing tension between the BJP and Congress in Karnataka, as both parties jockey for influence ahead of future elections.
