19-year-old arrested for role in shocking mob beating of couple at fiery NYC car meet-up

Authorities say a 19‑year‑old was taken into custody on Thursday and faces a laundry‑list of assault charges for his part in a mob‑style attack that happened at a chaotic illegal car meet in Queens last month.

The suspect, named Justin Aguilera, has been charged with gang assault, assault, riot and trespassing for allegedly taking part in the violent assault on a husband and wife on November 22. According to the NYPD, the incident took place when a crowd of unruly drivers swooped onto a street corner in Malba, started a fire in a parked car and launched a rampage.

After the arrest, the young man was ushered out of the NYPD’s 109th Precinct stationhouse. He kept his head down and occasionally flashed a snarky glare at reporters and photographers who were taking pictures.

The confrontation erupted around 12:30 a.m. on South Drive and 141st Street when a group of extreme drivers performed donuts and raced along the lawn. Blake Ferrer, the victim, warned the attackers to leave his property. Rather than listen, the mob began kicking, punching and stomping on him, according to Ferrer’s account in The Post.

The attackers also assaulted Ferrer’s wife and then set a parked private‑security vehicle on fire. Ferrer suffered broken bones in the assault and was taken to York‑Presbyterian Queens Hospital for treatment.

Police said that after the beatdown, two other suspects fled in a white Chevy Silverado heading south on the Whitestone Expressway. Earlier released NYPD photos showed the two men as being between 18 and 24 years old.

It took close to thirty minutes for officers to arrive because they were busy with other calls, and the event was initially reported as a drag‑racing incident. Police leadership has pledged to increase patrols in the usually quiet Malba neighborhood so that an event like this never happens again.
