‘Continue to serve the Congress’: K’taka Dy CM Shivakumar

In New Delhi, on Sunday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said he would keep working for the Congress party no matter what role the party gives him. “I am a disciplined soldier of the party,” he told reporters. “I have never black‑mailed the Congress. I have built it day and night, and I will keep building it.”

Shivakumar answered a question about rumors that he had quit as Karnataka’s state party president. He said his mind, body and politics are fine. “I’m going to meet AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge today,” he said.

The leader also outlined his upcoming plans. “Before the end of December we need to lay the foundation stone for 100 Congress offices,” he said. “I have written a book called ‘Gandhi Bharat,’ and we’ll pick a release date soon.” He added that the first Parliament session begins on Dec. 1, so the party must celebrate Congress Foundation Day too.

Shivakumar said he would handle all of that work himself, insisting a resignation would be unnecessary. “As long as the party asks me to work in this position, I will do it with the same discipline. I want the Congress to return to power in Karnataka,” he said.

When reporters asked if he would discuss a cabinet reshuffle with Kharge, Shivakumar replied that only the chief minister can do that. “If my presence is needed, I’ll go,” he said. He will mainly finalize dates for laying foundation stones. “It would be ideal if Rahul Gandhi, the Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha, and Mallikarjun Kharge come together to lay the stones. I’ll ask them to do it a weekend before the Parliament session starts.”

Shivakumar also detailed his office‑building plans. He said he is spending Rs 2.30 crore on plans and that one office is already under construction under Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. Land has been prepared for 75 to 80 locations, and the party aims to build 100 new offices across the state.
