CPI (M) used tribals as vote bank, BJP works for all sections: Tripura CM

Agartala, Dec 13 (LatestNewsX) – Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha claimed on Saturday that the CPI (M) had historically treated tribal communities merely as a voting bloc. He countered that the BJP, by contrast, focuses on inclusive progress and the welfare of all citizens.

Speaking at a party gathering in the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, the CM noted that the communists were so sure of their grip on tribal voters they began tallying results from the 20 tribal seats of a 60‑member assembly. “Now they (CPI‑M) are nervous,” he said. “From the next assembly election onward, whenever a BJP government is in power, we’ll also count from the 20 seats.”

Saha, a former BJP state chief, added that his party operates under the blessings and direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and national chief J.P. Nadda, aiming to bring peace and development to the state. He described earlier politics as a period of fear, intimidation, and violence that inflicted lasting pain on tribal people.

During the event, Saha formally welcomed 5,050 new voters from 1,706 families who had joined the BJP. He recalled how markets were often closed and threats issued every time leaders held meetings. “That style of politics will not survive,” he said. “Whenever there’s an attack, the BJP grows stronger.” He emphasized that the party follows Modi’s vision of a “New India” and is devoted to creating a “New Tripura.”

“The BJP is not a party of goons; it works for the people,” Saha asserted. He explained the meaning behind ‘Thansa’, a tribal term for unity, which symbolizes solidarity among non‑tribals, tribal groups, Manipuri, and other minorities—an integration that the BJP strives to uphold to build a prosperous Tripura.

He further noted that the BJP‑led administration remains focused on development and respects everyone who has contributed to the state’s progress, including members of the royal family. Saha stressed that though new parties often come and go, the BJP’s “double‑engine” government truly serves tribal welfare.

Those who joined the BJP on Saturday, he said, made the right choice at the right moment, and he is confident the party will perform even better in the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections.

The assembly was attended by BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharya, General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, Tourism Minister Sushant Chowdhury, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, BJP Vice President and TTAADC member Bimal Chakma, Vice President Subal Bhowmik, MLA Shambhu Lal Chakma, and several other senior leaders.
