Punjab Police Cracks Down on 5G Theft Gang Targeting Airtel, Arrests 61 in Major Operation
In a big win for telecom security, Punjab Police arrested 61 people and filed 95 FIRs on Tuesday to stop a massive theft ring hitting Bharti Airtel’s 5G infrastructure. This quick action saved essential 4G and 5G services from major disruptions across the state.
The thefts targeted high-value parts like GUC1 Cards, which are key base band units for sending 4G and 5G signals. Reports of these quick hits prompted Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Led by DIG Rajpal Sandhu, the SIT teamed up with local police to nab the suspects and recover stolen gear.
DIG Sandhu shared that the thieves pulled off each job in just under two minutes before speeding away. "They went straight for those critical 5G telecom equipment pieces," he said. Using smart tech surveillance and tips from informants, police busted the entire network behind these 5G thefts.
The investigation digs deeper now, tracking suppliers and buyers to expose the full chain. They’re also checking for any insider help from telecom workers. Punjab Police warned criminals: stop these anti-social acts right away, or face tough legal action. With special teams in every district, expect more arrests soon in this 5G infrastructure protection drive.
Punjab’s Drug Bust War Hits New High: 86 Smugglers Nabbed in 359 Raids
On the same day, Punjab Police ramped up their "Yudh Nashian Virudh" anti-drug campaign with raids at 359 spots. They arrested 86 drug smugglers and registered 75 FIRs statewide.
This brings the total drug peddlers caught to 29,804 in just 199 days of the crackdown. Police seized 21.1 kg of heroin, 2 kg of opium, 254 kg of poppy husk, 1,156 intoxicating tablets and capsules, plus Rs 500 in drug cash from the accused.
