New Delhi – After the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) kicked off the second phase of its Jan Sadharan Awaas Yojana last Friday, the city saw a record response.
On the first day of booking, more than 1,000 flats were snapped up from the new phase, according to a DDA official.
The launch hit six key Delhi neighbourhoods – Rohini, Ramgarh Colony, Shivaji Marg, and Narela – and all the units in those areas were booked immediately. “People are lining up for affordable homes from the moment the doors open,” the official said.
Delhi lieutenant governor and DDA chairman V.K. Saxena walked the sites and praised the speed and transparency of the process. “The response is overwhelming,” he told reporters. “We’re proud of the trust the public places in our housing programmes.”
The first phase of Jan Sadharan Awaas Yojana, introduced in September 2025, set a high bar by filling 1,200 low‑cost apartments across well‑connected parts of the city in a single day. Phase II builds on that success with nearly 1,500 new units for the low‑income and economically weaker sections of society.
The new flats sit in areas chosen for their mix of affordability and good connectivity, giving residents easy access to transport links, essential amenities and planned urban infrastructure. The DDA keeps the booking process online and straightforward, reinforcing its “Housing for All” pledge and supporting balanced, sustainable growth in Delhi’s urban landscape.
