“Deceitful party only indulges in deception,” Anil Vij slams Congress over deepfake of PM Modi’s late mother

Haryana Minister Slams Congress for Using AI to Spread Lies in Viral Video Row

In a heated exchange in Ambala, Haryana, Haryana Minister Anil Vij fired sharp criticism at the Congress party on Saturday. He accused them of turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to peddle false narratives because they’ve run out of real issues to discuss. Vij didn’t hold back while talking to reporters, saying the Congress is deliberately trying to confuse and mislead people. "The Congress has no solid ground left, so they’re using AI to spread lies and create chaos. A party built on deceit only knows how to deceive," he added.

This outburst comes right after a controversial AI-generated video went viral on social media. The clip, allegedly shared by Bihar Congress, showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a dream sequence with his late mother, Heeraben Modi. It quickly sparked a massive political storm, with BJP leaders condemning the move as tasteless and disrespectful.

The controversy isn’t new for the Congress. Just days earlier, another video surfaced online from the Congress-led Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar’s Darbhanga. It featured an unidentified person on stage hurling abuses at PM Modi and his mother, drawing widespread backlash.

BJP leaders have been vocal in their response. BJP MP Anurag Thakur, speaking to reporters in Pune, Maharashtra, called out Congress and RJD for sinking to new lows. "A mother’s place is sacred in everyone’s life, but Congress and RJD have gone too far by abusing the Prime Minister’s late mother in this awful video. This shows their true mindset. Do they really need to stoop so low in politics?" Thakur questioned.

Echoing the sentiment, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma accused the Congress of losing their cool and using dirty tricks to damage PM Modi’s reputation. "Congress has lost its mental balance. They’re throwing insults at PM Modi to tarnish his image. It’s become Rahul Gandhi’s routine to disrespect constitutional bodies—he even skipped the Vice President’s oath ceremony despite being the Leader of Opposition," Sharma said.

On the other side, Congress leader Pawan Khera pushed back strongly. He denied any disrespect in the video and blamed the BJP for blowing things out of proportion to drum up false sympathy. Talking to , Khera remarked, "Where’s the disrespect to his late mother? Point out one word or gesture if you can. Parents guide their children—that’s what she’s doing here. If someone feels disrespected, that’s their problem, not ours. Why does BJP turn everything into a drama for fake sympathy?"

Khera added that PM Modi can’t play the "untouchable" card in politics. "He has to handle opposition views, even humor. But this isn’t humor; it’s just advice (naseehat). People aren’t buying this sympathy game anymore," he concluded.

The AI video controversy highlights the growing role of technology in Indian politics, with both sides accusing each other of crossing lines. As the debate rages on social media and beyond, it underscores the intense rivalry ahead of key elections.
