New Delhi – Dec 7 (LatestNewsX) – President Droupadi Murmu voiced her deep sorrow after a devastating fire ripped through a well‑known nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, killing at least 23 people and wounding others.
She extended her condolences to the victims’ families, calling the tragedy “heart‑breaking” and saying she was praying for the quick recovery of those being treated.
In a post on X, she wrote, “Deeply pained by the tragic fire incident in North Goa district resulting in the loss of precious lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May they find strength during this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
The president’s remarks arrive amid a nationwide shock over the late‑night blaze at Birch by Romeo Lane, a famed nightlife spot near Baga beach. The fire, which erupted just after midnight on Saturday, is among the deadliest in Goa’s recent history.
At least 23 people lost their lives when the inferno suddenly engulfed the club, an event that has shocked the region. “The blaze broke out around midnight,” police said, hinting that a cylinder explosion inside the venue may have triggered it.
The blast cut short the chances for many, especially staff, to escape. Fire crews from several stations rushed to the scene, fighting the flames through the early hours and keeping the operation going until dawn as they sifted through wreckage and tackled lingering hotspots.
Authorities confirmed that a significant portion of the casualties were club employees. Senior police officers, including the Director General of Police and North Goa district units, arrived shortly after the fire was reported to coordinate rescue and relief.
Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also expressed deep sorrow. Posting on X, he wrote, “Today is a very painful day for all of us in Goa. A major fire incident at Arpora has taken the lives of 23 people. I am deeply grieved and offer my heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families in this hour of unimaginable loss.”
He added, “I visited the incident site and have ordered an inquiry into this incident. The inquiry will examine the exact cause of the fire and whether fire safety norms and building rules were followed. Those found responsible will face the most stringent action under the law—any negligence will be dealt with firmly.”
