In northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area, a 20‑year‑old student was badly injured by an acid attack just after classes on Sunday morning. The assault happened near Laxmi Bai College, according to police officials.
The victim— a second‑year private‑school student— was headed to an extra lecture when the attackers stopped her. Police say the main suspect, Jitender, along with Ishan and Arman, were on a motorcycle when they intercepted her. Ishan handed a bottle to Arman, who flung acid at the student. She reacted quickly, raising her hands to protect her face, and suffered burns on both hands.
The trio fled the scene immediately. Security teams rushed her to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, where doctors treated her injuries and notified the police.
Forensic experts later visited the site, collecting evidence and samples. An early investigation reveals that Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur, had been stalking the victim for months. A heated argument about a month ago appears to have triggered the harassment that ended in this violent attack.
Delhi Police have filed a formal complaint under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alleging acid attack and criminal conspiracy. Authorities are still tracing the suspects. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and gathering local intelligence.
The attack has sparked fresh alarm over women’s safety and the easy access to corrosive chemicals in the national capital. The city’s law‑enforcement agencies are urging the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity to curb such violent incidents.
