Delhi blast accused’s viral video: Dr Umar Mohammad talks about suicide bombing

Following the tragic car bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on November 10, a video recorded by the driver, Dr. Umar Mohammad, has surfaced online. In the clip, the 37‑year‑old doctor—who works at Al Falah University in Faridabad—talks about his plan in strongly religious terms, calling the attack a “martyrdom operation.”

Umar says that suicide bombing is “a misunderstood concept of martyrdom” and describes the idea of planning to die at a set time and place. The video shows a mindset focused on large‑scale terror, according to police. Authorities believe he made the film to influence others.

The blast killed at least 13 people and injured dozens. The car was driven by Umar, who had left his teaching duties at the university on October 30 and started traveling repeatedly between Faridabad and Delhi. He was seen visiting mosques near Ramleela Maidan and Sunehri Masjid in late October.

On November 9, after police raids in Faridabad, Umar disappeared. Law enforcement seized almost 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from a storage facility linked to the case and arrested several of his associates. In the course of the investigation, police discovered that Umar and another accomplice, Dr. Muzammil, had traveled to Turkey, where they are believed to have connected with international handlers.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the growing threat of “white‑collar” terror networks and the need to keep an eye on individuals who may be radicalised. Police continue to investigate the connections between Umar, the Faridabad‑Delhi route, and the Turkish links, and are working to prevent further attacks.
