Delhi’s air pollution is climbing again, and the city government is stepping up its fight to clear the skies.
New Delhi, Nov 3 – Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the state is sending multiple teams across the capital to tackle the main sources of smog and improve overall air quality.
During a high‑level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, Gupta – joined by the Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the PWD Minister, Development Minister Kapil Mishra and others – set a clear agenda. She ordered pressure‑teams to target the most polluting industrial units and vehicles, with plans to shut down non‑compliant factories and seize polluting cars. The teams will report each evening so the government can act quickly.
Gupta also warned that any officer who shirks pollution‑control duties will face “strict action.” The newly formed units will clamp down on garbage burning, fine offenders, and charge them under existing laws.
To clean up Delhi’s “hotspots,” the government has started continuous water sprinkling and a mechanical dust‑control program. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been instructed to keep streets, markets and colonies free of waste, with regular cleaning schedules and real‑time monitoring.
With winter looming, Gupta said the city is already planning to provide heaters to night‑shift security staff in markets and neighborhoods in case pollution levels spike.
Environment Minister Sirsa stressed that the government has doubled water‑sprinkler deployment and reaffirmed that dust control is a top priority. “We will not tolerate any carelessness when it comes to pollution control,” he said.
Together, these measures aim to cut Delhi’s air pollution, protect public health, and keep the city breathing easier as the winter season approaches.
