Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta dove into the Swacchata hi Sewa campaign 2025 on Thursday, lending a hand in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi’s bustling heritage hub. She joined locals and officials for a cleanliness drive, stressing how vital the area is for both history and business.
“This spot in Chandni Chowk is our precious heritage zone,” Gupta said. “Millions flock here, and it’s a powerhouse for commercial activities. Festivals crank up the crowds, making spotless streets even more crucial. We need to step up cleanliness efforts big time.” She added that she reviewed local setups with officials and pitched in with some hands-on volunteer work to make a difference.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Praveen Khandelwal, who showed up for the event, pushed for a key change to honor the site’s roots. He called on authorities to rename the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Authority as the Indraprastha Redevelopment Authority. “We’ve seen Chandni Chowk’s rich history and vibrant commerce firsthand,” Khandelwal told reporters. “Renaming it to Indraprastha will better capture that legacy and get all agencies working together smoothly.”
Over at the Army headquarters, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh kept the momentum going by honoring sanitation workers during the same campaign. Top military brass joined in, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.
Singh praised the workers and tied their efforts to the bigger picture of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. “We’re marking Swachhata Diwas today, and it’s incredible how this cleanliness revolution has touched every corner of India,” he said. “Keeping your home and neighborhood tidy sends a strong signal—you’re disciplined and take responsibility for your world.” The event highlighted how the nationwide push for hygiene, now in its 10th year, keeps inspiring communities from historic markets to defense hubs.
