Delhi Court Orders In-Camera Hearings in Samir Modi Rape Case

A Delhi court has decided to hold all hearings in the high-profile rape case against businessman Samir Modi behind closed doors. This move came on Friday at the Saket Court, following a request from the complainant’s lawyer who highlighted the sensitive details of the allegations.

Samir Modi, the brother of former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, faces serious charges. His lawyer strongly opposed the in-camera proceedings, arguing that bail hearings usually stay open to the public. But the court found the request reasonable and ordered private sessions to protect the privacy of those involved.

In a related update, the court also extended Samir Modi’s police remand by two more days. Delhi Police had asked for three days, but the judge approved just two. This keeps the investigation moving as police dig deeper into the rape allegations.

Samir Modi got arrested on Thursday at Delhi’s IGI airport right after returning from a business trip to Europe. A Look-Out Circular (LOC) issued against him led to the quick arrest. He spent his first day in police custody before this extension.

The case kicked off last week when a woman filed a First Information Report (FIR) at New Friends Colony Police Station. She claims she was in a long-term relationship with Samir Modi since 2019 and accuses him of rape. The complaint details alleged incidents over several years, including meetings in public spots like restaurants and offices.

Samir Modi’s legal team calls the entire story "false and made-up." They say the woman is trying to extort money from him. In fact, Modi himself filed complaints on August 8 and 13, accusing her of blackmail. His lawyer shared WhatsApp messages where she supposedly demanded Rs 50 crore.

In a strong statement, Modi’s counsel slammed the police action as "hasty and arbitrary." They point out that Modi even met the investigating officer before his Europe trip, yet got arrested upon landing back in India without proper checks. The team questions the complaint’s timing and details, saying claims from four years ago sound like "wild stories" with malicious intent.

Modi, a well-known businessman tangled in other legal battles, remains confident in the system. His lawyer said he trusts India’s judiciary and agencies to investigate thoroughly and clear his name soon.

This Delhi rape case involving Samir Modi has grabbed attention due to his family ties and business background. As the in-camera hearings proceed, more details may emerge, but for now, the focus stays on a fair probe. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing Samir Modi arrest story.
