Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, a key voice in the Janata Dal (United), says he sees the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) taking a big win in the upcoming Bihar assembly polls. He urged the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to brace itself for a scenario that could be worse than the storm the party weathered in 2010.
In that 2010 election, the NDA swept Bihar, capturing 206 of 243 seats. The JD(U) claimed 115 seats, while its ally BJP took 91. Prasad is confident that with chief minister Nitish Kumar at the helm, the NDA will repeat or even surpass that performance.
The RJD could lose many seats. Prasad warned its supporters to prepare for a tougher battle. “The people have already decided that under Nitish Kumar, the NDA is set to win big,” he told . “We’ll fight together, and the government will form under him.”
Polling for the 243 assembly seats will happen on 6 and 11 November, with vote counting scheduled for 14 November. The main contest remains between the incumbent NDA—led by Nitish Kumar—and the Mahagathbandhan coalition headed by the RJD.
Inside the current Bihar assembly, the NDA holds 131 seats, which include 80 BJP members, 45 JD(U), 4 HAM, and 2 independents. The alliance also partners with the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
Opposing them, the INDIA bloc brings together the RJD, Congress, CPI‑ML, CPI, CPM, and the Vikasheel Insaan Party. Other challengers, like Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, also aim to win seats across the state. The coming elections promise to reshape Bihar’s political landscape once again.
