Football: Alexander-Arnold’s problems continue with serious hamstring injury, setback for Real Madrid
Madrid – Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – The wound that has marked Trent Alexander‑Arnold’s early spell at Real Madrid deepens as the club confirmed he sustained a severe hamstring injury in Wednesday’s 3‑0 triumph over Athletic Club.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Trent Alexander‑Arnold by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps,” the club’s website read.
While no specific timeline was given and the club simply said “his recovery will be monitored,” Spanish outlet Diario AS estimated he will be sidelined for at least two months. That absence would force him to skip La Liga fixtures against Celta Vigo, Deportivo Alaves, Sevilla, Betis, Levante and Villarreal, plus Spain’s Supercup in Saudi Arabia and the remaining Champions League group ties vs Manchester City, Monaco and Benfica.
Alexander‑Arnold’s injury woes began in July with a muscle strain that curbed his preseason regimen, followed by a hamstring strain on September 16 that ruled him out for a month. He only returned to regular starts after the recent international break.
Diario AS now reports a tear in the posterior hamstring, confirming a two‑month out. This means he will miss the Supercup, the rest of the Champions League group stage, the Copa del Rey Round of 32 and Round of 16, and six league games. In Europe, Los Blancos face Manchester City, Benfica and AS Monaco, while Atletico Madrid await them in the Supercup semifinal.
In the league, the squad will still play Celta Vigo, Alaves, Sevilla, Betis, Levante and Villarreal – up to thirteen matches he could miss. The earliest return could come against Rayo Vallecano on the last weekend of January, but the more likely comeback would be in the clash at Mestalla against Valencia on the 7th or 8th of February.
