Delhi Police recover huge cache of illegal firecrackers from residence in Rajouri Garden

Delhi Police busted a secret firecracker stash on Thursday morning, seizing over 3,580 kilograms of illegal fireworks from a home in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden. The raid caught a family red-handed as they repackaged the banned items for sale ahead of the festival season.

Officers from the West District targeted a house in Vishal Enclave after getting a tip-off about the operation. Inside, they found fireworks piled everywhere—from rooms to hallways—turning the residence into an illegal storage hub. The man, his wife, and their son were busy breaking down the stock into smaller packages for distribution when police stormed in.

The family, who run a namkeen and snacks shop in nearby Moti Nagar, sourced the firecrackers from Meerut, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad. They planned to sell them at a hefty profit in Delhi, ignoring the Supreme Court’s strict ban on fireworks to curb air pollution. Police say this kind of underground trade surges during Diwali and other festivals, prompting them to ramp up checks on suppliers and storage spots.

This big seizure not only enforces the court’s rules but also averts a serious fire risk in the crowded neighborhood. No injuries were reported, and the family now faces charges for violating the firecracker ban. Authorities continue cracking down to keep the city safe this festive season.
