New Delhi – More than 500 students and teachers from Delhi’s Sanskriti School joined a pledge to live a drug‑free life on Friday. The event was organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Delhi Zonal Unit and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as part of a nationwide effort to keep schools clean and safe.
The pledge ceremony marked the first stage of an NCB‑CBSE partnership that will roll out similar programs in over 100 schools across India. Officials say the “hub‑and‑spoke” model will spread awareness to students, teachers and parents, turning each school into a small hub that feeds into a larger network.
“By teaching young people about the dangers of drug abuse, we’re building a Drug‑Free India,” said a NCB official. Dr. Anees C., Deputy Director, NCB, urged everyone to stay alert and to use the NCB MANAS Helpline (free toll‑free number 1933) for help with drug‑related questions or to report trafficking.
CBSE’s Joint Director, Niti Shanker, highlighted other support tools from the board, including counseling hubs, a parenting calendar, a career guidance dashboard, and the CBSE‑AIIMS MATE program. All are aimed at boosting students’ mental health and overall development.
During the event, NCB officers talked about how drugs can damage health, lead to legal trouble, and ruin future plans. Students then broke into small groups to discuss topics like “Every Student is an Ambassador of Awareness” and “How Social Media and Online Games Can Expose Students to Drugs.” A lively street play reinforced the message: “Say Yes to Life, Yes to Dreams, and No to Drugs.”
With the pledge taken, the school has now added a concrete promise to its curriculum. The initiative shows Delhi’s commitment to keeping kids drug‑free while giving parents and teachers practical tools to support the cause.
