Delhi’s air quality sees slight improvement with AQI at 300

New Delhi – Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – The city’s air quality dipped a touch this morning, even as temperatures fell. By 7 a.m. the Central Pollution Control Board had logged an AQI of 300. The overall reading still falls into the ‘poor’ range, but many local monitors stayed in the ’very poor’ zone.

Out of 39 stations, 19 were ‘very poor’, 14 were ‘poor’, and only two – Dilshad Garden (196) and Mandir Marg (179) – slipped into the ‘moderate’ category. The “very poor” spots included Chandni Chowk (331), RK Puram (344), Rohini (343), Vivek Vihar (319), Bawana (343), Siri Fort (327), Wazirpur (323), Anand Vihar (318), Ashok Vihar (307) and Sonia Vihar (301). ‘Poor’ readings came from places like IGI Airport (257), Alipur (284), Aya Nagar (275), Mathura Road (296) and IIT Delhi (287).

Noida next door fared worse, with almost every station giving ‘very poor’ figures. On Wednesday several Delhi sites crossed the 401 mark, landing them in the “severe” bracket per CPCB data from 14 sensors at 7.05 a.m.

Amid the ongoing pollution crisis, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for a cold snap in Delhi on Friday, expecting lows of 4–6 °C. In reaction, the Centre and the Delhi government ramped up action on Wednesday: they announced new monitoring protocols and ordered over 2,000 factories to install real‑time emission trackers by year’s end.

At the national level, the Union Environment Ministry directed 2,254 high‑pollution (“red category”) units to fit Online Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (OCEMS) and Air Pollution Control Devices (APCD) before the December deadline, warning that non‑compliant plants could be shut down.

Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, announced the creation of a powerful expert panel to keep a constant watch on pollution, review measures and push forward solutions. She said the panel would bring together senior officials, IIT scientists and environmental specialists, giving it special authority to speed up clean‑air initiatives.
