India’s Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan kicked off the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 on Tuesday in New Delhi, spotlighting the government’s push to spark creativity among school students. He unveiled the event’s catchy jingle and vibrant logo during the launch, emphasizing how this initiative will celebrate student innovations and fuel an innovation boom across the country.
“The Viksit Bharat Buildathon will honor young minds’ breakthroughs, ignite a renaissance in Indian innovation, and position the next generation as the driving force behind prosperous, developed, and self-reliant India—or Samriddhi, Viksit, and Atmanirbhar Bharat,” Pradhan said.
Organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education, the Buildathon teams up with the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and AICTE. This nationwide drive invites students from every corner of India to join in building ideas that matter.
The event focuses on boosting creative problem-solving for India’s growth, fostering self-reliance and eco-friendly progress, and uniting schools in a big synchronized innovation push. Organizers hope it sets a world record and puts India on the map as a top global hub for youth-led innovation, while shining a light on young inventors on national and international stages.
It picks up where the successful School Innovation Marathon 2024 left off. That event sparked programs like the Student Innovator Programme (SIP) and Student Entrepreneurship Programme (SEP), plus patents and startup ideas from Atal Tinkering Labs.
Students can register right now on the official Viksit Bharat Buildathon portal at https://vbb.mic.gov.in/, with the window open from September 23 to October 6. Schools then get a prep phase from October 6 to 13, where teachers help student teams sign up and get ready.
After that, kids submit their ideas and prototypes online. The highlight—a live synchronized innovation event—happens on October 13, letting everyone showcase their work in real time.
Final submissions roll in from October 13 to 31. A team of experts will review entries over two months, from November 1 to December 31. Winners get announced in January 2026, with celebrations for the top 1,000-plus standout projects.
This Buildathon promises to empower India’s young innovators and build a brighter, more self-sufficient future—one idea at a time.
