Dilapidated roads, crumbling health centres”: Ahead of PM’s visit RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav says Bihar in “deplorable condition

Tejashwi Yadav Urges PM Modi to See Bihar’s Real Issues Before Purnea Airport Inauguration

Patna, Bihar: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has a strong message for Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his visit to Bihar. As PM Modi gears up to inaugurate the Purnea Airport and launch the National Makhana Board today, Yadav wants him to take a close look at the state’s crumbling roads, schools without teachers, and rundown health centers.

In a sharp post on X (formerly Twitter), Yadav called out the poor conditions near the rally spot. "Prime Minister Ji, before you make more empty promises in Purnia, please check the broken rural roads, teacherless schools, and falling-apart health centers just 2-3 km from your venue," he wrote. He even pointed to the "deplorable condition" of Purnea Medical College that PM Modi saw yesterday.

Yadav slammed the huge costs of Modi’s rallies, saying each one burdens Bihar with around Rs 100 crore. "This money could fix inflation, poverty, unemployment, and migration issues," he said. Instead of spending on events, why not build playgrounds, boundary walls for schools, and separate toilets for girls? He added that health centers desperately need more staff and medicines.

The opposition leader didn’t stop there. He reminded PM Modi of a promise made 11.5 years ago in Purnia itself—to give Bihar special status. "What happened to that? Are you here again to sell false hopes before the elections?" Yadav asked, hitting out at what he called "empty rhetoric."

Meanwhile, Bihar’s political scene heats up with assembly elections on the horizon. The Mahagathbandhan alliance, including RJD, Congress, and left parties, is in seat-sharing talks. At a recent rally in Muzaffarpur, Yadav boldly declared that his side will fight all 243 seats to take on the ruling NDA.

The NDA, led by BJP and JD(U), holds 131 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly—BJP with 80, JD(U) with 45, HAM(S) with 4, plus 2 independents. The INDIA bloc, with RJD topping at 77 seats, Congress at 19, and others like CPI(ML) at 11, has 111 members and aims to oust Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

On a positive note, PM Modi’s visit brings big development projects worth Rs 36,000 crore to Bihar. He’ll lay the foundation for a massive 3×800 MW thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur—Bihar’s largest private investment at Rs 25,000 crore. This ultra-super critical, low-emission project will boost power supply and energy security.

Modi will also kick off rail projects to improve connectivity. Highlights include the Rs 2,170 crore Bikramshila-Katareah rail line, which will create a direct link across the Ganga River. Plus, he’ll flag off new trains to make travel easier for locals.

As Bihar eyes growth, voices like Yadav’s highlight the gaps between promises and reality. Will these projects turn things around? Stay tuned as the state braces for more political action.
