A shocking incident has sparked outrage in Kerala after CCTV footage revealed police brutalizing a Youth Congress leader inside a police station. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has called for immediate action, demanding the police officers involved be dismissed. The distressing visuals, released after a two-year legal fight, show Chovannur Youth Congress President Sujith being viciously attacked inside Kunnamkulam police station on April 5, 2023. The footage was obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) appeal. According to the video, Sujith had gone to question police officers who were intimidating his friends on the roadside. This angered Sub-Inspector Nuhman, leading to a violent assault. The footage shows Sujith being dragged into the police station in a jeep, with his shirt forcibly removed. Inside, several officers beat him repeatedly on his face and back, forcing him into a crouched position. Medics later confirmed that the assault caused hearing damage in one ear. Instead of filing a proper case, police falsely accused Sujith of causing trouble while drunk, obstructing duty, and harassing officers. A medical test ordered by the court proved that Sujith wasn’t under the influence of alcohol. Although the court granted him bail, Sujith had to fight a tough legal battle to prove his innocence and access CCTV evidence. Reacting strongly, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala described the footage as a disturbing reminder of police brutality. He questioned who authorized such savage violence and emphasized that police officers involved in such acts must be dismissed immediately. Chennithala also pointed out that police stations should serve the people, not act as places of torture or repression. This case has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding justice. The public wants police officials involved to face strict disciplinary action. The visuals have put pressure on the authorities to take swift action against police brutality and ensure accountability. This incident highlights the urgent need for police reforms and stronger checks to protect citizens’ rights. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
