New Delhi, Nov. 14 – Lucknow University will host a nine‑day “Divya Kala Mela” from Nov. 15 to 23, featuring hand‑made crafts, handloom fabrics, embroidery, packaged foods and more. The event, organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aims to celebrate the talents and entrepreneurial spirit of Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from all corners of India.
NDFDC – the national agency that supports disabled entrepreneurs – will showcase products from states such as Jammu and Kashmir, the North‑Eastern region, and 18 other states and union territories. The mela will host around 100 Divyang artisans, artists and entrepreneurs who will display home décor, apparel, stationery, eco‑friendly items, packaged food, toys, jewellery, and clutch bags.
The Divya Kala Mela is part of a growing series: 26 such fairs have been held across the country in the last three years. Together, artisans from 24 states have earned over ₹21 crore in sales, boosting local economies and creating new marketing channels for people with disabilities. The fairs also raise awareness through experience zones, Divyang sports, art exhibitions, and cultural performances.
Visitors to Lucknow University can explore the mela daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. In addition to the crafts, there will be tasty regional delicacies and a lineup of cultural acts featuring both Divyang and mainstream performers. On Nov. 23, a special show called “Divya Kala Shakti” will spotlight talented Divyang artists from different states.
The fair encourages shoppers to practice “Vocal for Local” by buying locally produced, high‑quality items crafted with dedication. With its mix of art, culture, and commerce, the Divya Kala Mela offers a powerful platform to showcase the skills and creativity of India’s disabled artisans.
