‘Don’t make comments on RSS just for attention, publicity’: BJP leader tells Priyank Kharge

Bengaluru – Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the leader of the opposition in Karnataka’s Legislative Council, confronted state minister Priyank Kharge on Monday, accusing him of wasting time on “baseless” issues and ignoring the hardships faced by Dalit communities under the Congress‑led government.

Speaking from the BJP state office at Jagannath Bhavan, Narayanaswamy warned Kharge that his casual remarks about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were drawn only for publicity and headlines. “Has the RSS ever insulted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar? Has it ever acted against him?” he asked, challenging Kharge to back his claims with facts.

The opposition leader slammed Kharge’s claim that the RSS should be barred from schools and temples, arguing that a ₹42 billion package announced by the state has not reached Dalit families. Narayanaswamy said that Congress ministers, unlike Mallikarjun Kharge, have “never spoken against the RSS” and that their calm leadership helped prevent unrest during the recent RSS convention in Bengaluru.

Narayanaswamy recalled that then‑Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge personally supervised security for the event and praised the RSS, praising its “thousands of volunteers who dedicate themselves to protecting and strengthening the nation.” He accused Kharge of defending extremist groups instead of supporting Dalits.

The opposition leader called on Kharge to focus on his ministerial duties, review his constituency, and check education standards in his hometown. He warned that if Kharge seeks the Home Minister post, “people say Karnataka will burn.” He urged the Congress party to keep ministers like Kharge under control, warning that voters will punish arrogance.

In a country where the RSS celebrates its centenary, Kharge’s comments—according to Narayanaswamy—only stir division. He called for Kharge to issue an apology instead of making “frivolous remarks” about the organization.

The debate highlights continuing tensions in Karnataka over caste rights, government spending, and the role of the RSS in public life.
