New Delhi, Oct 8 – With the Bihar Assembly elections a short box from the calendar, a new political move is stirring up the race in the state’s north‑east part of Mithilanchal.
AIMIM, the All India Muslim Majlis, has announced it will go for four seats: Jale, Bisfi, Keoti and the town of Darbhanga. The party says it is ready to build on the five seats it won last time in the Seemanchal region.
The announcement came on Thursday when AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi spoke at a rally in Kumrauli, Jale district. He told crowds that the party is “ready to contest in the Mithilanchal area” after its success in Seemanchal.
Not all are cheering. Congress MP Udit Raj warned Muslim voters not to split their votes. “If you divide your vote this time, it will be a mistake,” Raj told . He pointed to the “hardship” the community faced after the 2015 election and urged voters to keep their support united.
In a calm reply, Congress MP Manoj Kumar said AIMIM can contest wherever it wants. “The people of Bihar will not be confused this time,” he said. He added that democracy lets anyone contest—four seats, fifty seats, who knows.
The big question is whether AIMIM’s entry will split the opposition’s Muslim vote, a group that usually backs the INDIA alliance led by RJD and Congress. Many voters and party leaders worry that a divided vote could benefit the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
Bihar’s 243‑member Assembly will be elected in two phases. The first round is on November 6, the second on November 11, with the final count on November 14. The state’s political scene is heating up, and this new twist could change the balance of power in the upcoming polls.
