Kabul – A collision on a road in Siagurd district of Parwan province on Tuesday afternoon claimed four lives and left two people injured. Police spokesman Fazal Rahim Muskinyar confirmed the deaths, which included women and children, and said both drivers were taken into custody. The crash, blamed on reckless driving, saw a car collide with a truck at a busy stretch of the local highway.
The tragedy follows a string of fatal road incidents across Afghanistan. On November 1, a truck that was moving a family of settlers overturned near the outskirts of Lashkar Gah in Helmand province. That accident killed three people – one woman and two others – and injured five, including four children. Earlier this month, a tractor‑vehicle collision in Laghman province killed three passengers and injured 18 others along the highway linking Kabul to Nangarhar.
In Jawzjan province, a head‑on crash between two passenger cars on September 26 left one commuter dead and 11 others seriously hurt. Police reports again pointed to reckless driving as the main cause, and injured victims were rushed to a nearby health centre.
These events underscore a growing concern about road safety in Afghanistan. Experts say poor road conditions, excessive speed, overloading, congested highways, and a lack of clear traffic signs contribute to the high number of annual traffic fatalities. Authorities urge drivers to follow speed limits and observe road rules, while citizens call for better enforcement and road maintenance to prevent future tragedies.
